Our film certificate

Our film certificate is 15, we have chosen this certificate because the work as a whole must not endorse discriminatory language or behaviour, although there may be strong language. As a group we have decided to have our certification as a 15 because we think that by being this certificate it will attract a larger audience and it means that when we film we will be able to use a wider selection of language and violence can be used; also the narrative is more suitable to the older audience.

The whole film

This is a fundamental layout of how our film will run, this will help us as it gives us a thought regarding how we need the film to run, thus our opening will lead into this easily. This likewise keeps us from making it look a lot like a movie as we are probably aware how it will pursue the succession, we create finishes.

SCENE 1:

SCENE 6:
Sighs, turn off the TV and gets out of bed and walks out. Stern look on his face while still looking depressed and determined to do something terrible, he puts on his black cap and heads towards the door.












SCENE 7:
Walks past kitchen sees step dad who is a man who is dressed in a grey tracksuit and a red jacket having an argument with his mother. Step dad holding a bottle of an alcoholic beverage. In the background you can see boxes of beer.

SCENE 8:
He sneaks past while clenching his fist in anger and glares at him while he goes past. Step dad yells at mother in a rude manner.

SCENE 9:
Character is smoking a cigarette looking stern, worried and curious  while staring at the window of his residence while his step father brutally abuses his mother. Character leaning on the ledge watching the horrific scene of his mother being abused. Lighting on the character and lighting through the window.

Audience Questionnaire analysed





I tallied up our answer into an excel document to make it easier to view and count how many people chose which answer.

The first question answers our target audience question, our target audiences are people aged between 15-25 who like thrillers, these question makes sure we are not talking to a 80 year old which would not apply to us due to they are not in our target audience, with the second question making Shure we have a varied gender to compare all of answers to, it came off there were 7 male and 7 female showing us that our questionnaire was not gender bias.

the third and forth question "have you ever watched a thriller film" asks our a audience if they have watched any thriller films before and which ones, they answered 13 yes, and 2 no which shows us that our target audience have watched thrillers before, this means that they are expecting certain things like, suspense, action and being scared.

This is reinforced when we asked the question, "do you expect to be scared in a thriller" as my group predicted 12 people said yes while only 3 people said no, reinforcing the point that we there should be a science that will scare the audience in the film.

question 5 "do you like a film with a cliff hanger, suspense or finished story" doesn't really help us with our film opening but allows us to think about the film overall.

in question 6 we asked where would you like to watch the film tolled us about what kind of production company we were going to be. we found out from this that people prefer all kinds of cinemas and viewing areas, so this question did not help or hinder us deciding what kind of production company we were going to be.

This has effect our film opening by helping us decide what kind of company we are going to be and how our movie will run as a whole.

Group research into our genre

I have chosen to utilise the thriller genre as a feature of my examination.
A thriller for the most part comprises of a distinction between the hero and opponent, when there is an interruption to the harmony. At that point the story demonstrates a series of negative occasions building pressure and tension for the peak. The point of the hero is to establish equity, while the antagonist looks to devastate it.

 Conventions of a thriller normally include the following:

• -Protagonist is in the mercy of the antagonist

Characters:
The hero is regularly an overcome male who tries to maintain the balance. The antagonist will have a concealed character that the group of onlookers will reveal as the film advances. Regularly the opposer goes out for vengeance from a past occasion.

Themes of a thriller:
The story line will be planned so the audience will imagine that it can really transpire, which will make them terrified.


Cinematography of a thriller:
There will be a ton of close ups and extreme close ups of the hero character, this is regularly used to draw attention to their feelings, likewise it can be utilised to concentrate on props to help the story. The shots of the rival character will be sliced rapidly and will plan to hide their personality, for instance, a shot from the back, a calm shot, an outline or shadow of the character.



Editing of a thriller:
The director will incorporate lots of jump cuts because there will be things happening that the audience will be unconscious of what is yet basic for the film to bode well. Cross cutting is a key point in editing as it is utilised to manufacture anticipation which is basic for a thriller.



Sound in a thriller:
Music is fundamental in any film to comprehend the mind-set of the characters and indicate a huge part in the film. In a thriller it includes anticipation and pressure. It will regularly begin at a moderate pace and after that development to make the shots more sensational for the crowd.



Mise En Scene:
The area is critical for the film since it will help the group of audience build up the topic.
Lighting is regularly relaxed however, lowkey lighting is often used when tension builds up.


Costumes: Antagonist will be in dull garments on the off chance that you see them. Hero will be in customary day garments.

- engages the viewer to watch the rest of the film

This will help us film our opening as we know we have an idea on what to include in our one and it will make ours better as we are taking these ideas from making a good film opening and making it into ours.

The type of institution we will be

Our group had to choose what type of institution we would like to be, this could either be mainstream or independent, we chose to be an independent institution as we do not have the funds to be a mainstream film and these funds would be used for bigger name actors and better camera quality, also the film we are making is a gritty film so being an independent film could actually help this film as the institution fits the film. As we don't have big name actors or high production values we are targeting a specific audience and a specific age range. We have limited amount of marketing we could do and the distribution of the film would be limited and would not be able to go on multiplex cinemas like the mainstream films do, therefore we would target our film to reach independent cinemas as that where it would do best and would be the only thing our company would be capable of.

This helps us with making our film opening as knowing the institution we are means that we know what a film within that sector consists of, this could be that it is gritty, this helps as this is what we are aiming for in our opening, also we can look and take ideas from other independent films as we know we are similar to these openings and it can make our opening better than it could've been without other external ideas.
